What are cookies and what are they used for

Cookies are small text files that the sites visited by the user send directly to his terminal (usually the browser), where they are stored before being re-transmitted to the same sites at the next visit by the same user (so  -called first-party cookies ). While browsing a site, the user can also receive cookies from different sites or web servers on his terminal (so  -called third-party cookies); this happens because on the website visited there may be elements such as, for example, images, maps, sounds, specific links to web pages of other domains that reside on servers other than the one on which the requested page is located. In other words, they are those cookies that are set by a website other than the one you are currently visiting.

Cookies may have a duration limited to a single browsing session on the browser (so  -called session cookies ), and in this case they are automatically deactivated when the user closes the browser; or they may have a predetermined expiry date and, in this case, they will remain stored and active on your hard disk until that expiration date, continuing to collect information during different browsing sessions on the browser (so-called  permanent cookies ).

Cookies are used for various functions. Some are necessary to allow you to browse the Site and take advantage of its functions (so-called  technical cookies ). Others are used to obtain statistical information, in aggregate or not, on the number of users who access the Site and how the Site is used (so  -called monitoring  or analytics cookies ). Finally, others are used to trace your consumer profile and display advertisements on the Site that may be of interest to you, as they are consistent with your tastes and your consumption habits (so  -called profiling cookies ).

Technical cookies

Technical cookies are used on the Site for the sole purpose of making your browsing on the Site possible and allowing you to use its features. These are always first-party cookies, as they are conveyed directly by us on the Site.

Profiling cookies are designed to create user profiles and are used in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the user while surfing the net. Due to the particular invasiveness that such devices may have in the private sphere of users, European and Italian legislation provides that the user must be adequately informed on the use of the same  and thus express their valid consent.. The art. 122 of the Privacy Code where it provides that "the storage of information in the terminal equipment of a contractor or a user or access to information already stored is permitted only on condition that the contractor or user has given their consent after have been informed with the simplified procedures referred to in article 13 of the Privacy Code, paragraph 3 ″.

Session and Persistent Cookies

Session Cookies contain information that is used in the current browser session. These cookies are automatically deleted when the browser is closed. Nothing is stored on your computer beyond the time of use of the site (PHPSESSIONID and language). Persistent Cookies are used to maintain the information that is used in the period between one access and another to the website, or used for technical purposes and to improve navigation on the site. This data allows sites to recognize that you are an already known user or visitor and adapt accordingly. "Persistent" cookies have a duration that is set by the website and that can vary from a few minutes to several years.

First-party and third-party cookies

Cookies can be installed on the user's terminal both by the operator of the site that the user is visiting ('First Party Cookies'), and by third parties ('Third Party Cookies'). The information collected through First Party Cookies are kept by the operator of the site that the user has visited, while those collected through Third Party Cookies are kept by the third parties themselves.
